When most people think of Greece, the first thing that comes to mind is the ruins of the Parthenon and other ancient buildings. And while Athens is definitely worth a visit, there are so many other amazing places to see in Greece. From the pristine beaches of Mykonos to the historic sites of Olympia, there’s something for everyone in this beautiful country. Let us share with you all of the wonderful places you can visit in a one-week trip to Greece!

Day 1:
If you’re interested in history, you’ll want to visit some of Greece’s most famous archaeological sites, such as the Acropolis in Athens and the ancient city of Pompeii. Fly into Athens and explore the city. Then visit the Acropolis, and the Temple of Zeus. This is an ancient site that is located on a hill in the center of Athens. The most famous part of the Acropolis is the Parthenon, which was a temple dedicated to Athena. Then, head to the Ancient Agora to see where Socrates taught his students. In the evening, enjoy some traditional Greek food and drink at one of the many tavernas in Athens.

Day 2:
Head to the island of Mykonos. Relax on the beach, go for a swim, and explore the town. Be sure to visit Little Venice and windmill-turned-restaurant, Kato Milli. It is truly a gem of Greece. In the evening, catch the sunset from Paradise Beach before heading back into town for some nightlife.

Day 3:
Of course, no trip to Greece would be complete without spending some time on one of its many stunning beaches.
Spend another day relaxing on the beaches of Mykonos before heading back to Athens in the evening. Mykonos is a beautiful island in the Aegean Sea known for its pristine beaches and lively nightlife. Eat a lavish seafood dinner. You will love eating Octopus in Greece and that’s for sure!

Day 4:
Rent a car and drive down to Delphi to see the ruins of the Temple of Apollo and the Oracle of Delphi. Then, continue driving South along the coast to Olympia. Explore the archaeological site where the first Olympic Games were held. For outdoor lovers, there are plenty of hiking and biking trails to explore, as well as world-class skiing in the Olympus Mountains. For dinner, try traditional Greek food like Souvlaki or Gyros.

Day 5:
Drive back up North along the coast to Kalambaka. Stop at Thermopylae on the way to see where the famous battles against the Persians took place. When you reach Kalambaka, explore the Monasteries of Meteora. Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece that has a number of monasteries built on top of it. The monasteries are only accessible by climbing up a long set of stairs, but the views from the top are incredible.

Day 6:
You can spend this day in Naxos. Relax on the beach, go on a wine tour, or visit one of the many archaeological sites on the island. For dinner, try fresh seafood from the Aegean Sea. You must also try to visit Santorini on this day. Santorini is another Greek island, located in the southern Aegean Sea. It is known for its dramatic cliffs, white-sand beaches, and stunning sunsets.

Day 7:
Spend your last day in Athens. It will help you to catch your flight on time when the trip ends! Visit some of the city’s many museums, such as the National Archaeological Museum or the Acropolis Museum. In the evening, enjoy a final meal of traditional Greek food and drink some Ouzo to toast your trip.

Must-Have Greek Foods:
When it comes to food, Greek cuisine is known for its fresh seafood, flavorful olive oil, and delicious desserts. Gyro sandwiches, Saganaki (fried cheese), Moussaka (a baked dish with meat and eggplant), Baklava (sweet dessert with honey and flaky dough) and various types of pastries and cakes are all popular Greek foods as well. Whether you’re dining in a fancy restaurant or picking up a quick bite from a street vendor, you’re sure to enjoy your meals in Greece. And don ‘t forget to try the local wine!
Olives:
Olives, olive oil, and olives are prominent in most Greek dishes. Olives are such a big part of Greek culture that there is even an olive tree on the national flag! Be sure to try some traditional Greek dishes that feature olives, such as dolmades (stuffed vine leaves), horiatiki salata (Greek salad), and of course, pita bread with tzatziki sauce.
Sea Food:
Greece is a peninsula surrounded by the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Ionian seas, so it’s no surprise that seafood is a staple of the Greek diet. Fish, shrimp, squid, and octopus are all commonly eaten. Seafood also takes many forms from fresh fish at the morning markets to delicious plates of calamari or shrimp in a restaurant.
Dolma:
Dolma is a stuffed grape leaf dish that can be made with meat or vegetables. It’s a common appetizer or main course.
Baklava:
Baklava is a sweet pastry made with layers of phyllo dough, nuts, and syrup. It’s a popular dessert throughout Greece.You can have this rich oily textured delicacy in the morning as a snack with coffee or after your dinner in the night!
Moussaka:
Moussaka is a baked dish made with eggplant, ground beef, and a creamy sauce. It’s a popular Greek dish that can be served as a main course or side dish.
Spanakopita:
Spinach and feta cheese wrapped in flaky phyllo dough, spanakopita makes for a delicious appetizer or main dish.
Gyros:
If you’re looking for a quick and tasty lunch, then you need to try a gyro. This traditional Greek dish consists of meat (usually lamb or chicken) that is cooked on a vertical spit and then shredded and served inside a loaf of warm pita bread. The gyro is then topped with tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, feta cheese, and tzatziki sauce (the Greek yogurt and cucumber-based dip).
